Course Overview
|
This 5-day, 4-night residential course is aimed at providing an exciting and practical experience of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Participants all experience a taster of hands-on activity in Chemistry, Life Sciences, Engineering, Physics and Maths and Robotics across the week. Within each session, they will work in teams with a University mentor to tackle challenges designed to apply science and maths knowledge in new problem-solving contexts, build confidence and enhance learning and communication skills. Families and teachers are invited to the plenary presentations on the final day of the course.
This course is for Aimhigher students and is fully funded by HEFCE and Imperial College

Course Aims
|
This course will promote the life changing and wealth creating opportunities which arise through participation in STEM learning in Higher Education prior to entry to full-time employment. Students will cover a range of mentor-supported activities including robotics, maths investigation, cosmetics chemistry, and engineering, as well as personal effectiveness, skills training and careers guidance workshops |

Pre-requisites
|
Students will be *Aimhigher Year 10 students with an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects.*Aimhigher denotes that funding is designated to support students who are able and underachieving or who may be at a disadvantage which could potentially have a negative effect on achievement. |
